i've had my 2005 tundra for almost 6 years. I haven't had very many complaints with it. well, within the last month i had done an oil change on it and everything had been going good up until about a week ago. i noticed that when i stepped on the accerlertor the engine, or what i believe to be the engine, starts making a rapidly moving ch-ch-ch-ch sound. i've noticed the sound around 35 mph, 45 mph, and once it hits 50 mph it stays constant. I noticed that it has no correlation with the rpms, due to the fact that it isn't doing it while it shifts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Does it feel power is down?

power seems about what it was before. Also, the noise is more of a loud humming/vibrating not like previously stated.

So only when your moving right? 35, 45 and above 55? Not engine rpm related u stated.... does it change with decel? Or not and purely speed related?

Do me a favor, go a steady speed when it's humming loud. Wth out tragic around. Turn left a bit, a little harder than a lane change. Did it get louder? Or go away? How about turning right?

Ok I will try. It goes away almost immediately after decel. And comes back as soon as I step on the gas.

Regardless of speed? Pinion bearings in the rear differential change noise on decel/accel.

Wheel bearings typically change when steering side to side....

I took it on some curves while maintaining a constant speed where the humming/vibrating was loud. The sound didn't stop nor get louder. It's in between 30-35 mph now, when the humming starts. I'm curious as to why it wouldn't be doing this at a lower speed.

I checked the rear differential for any leaking seals and didn't find any.

Get a grease gun and grease up the joints via grease fittings. When you see grease start to come out of the ujoint area stop.

When I first got my Tundra I noticed a sound when I was accelerating hard. It was a high pitch scream. Then I realized it was me.

About a month ago my 2005 started making a hissing"ish" noise from engine compartment (I think). About the same time the check engine light came on. I took it to Autozone and they told me the codes said something about the air, like O2 sensor or air filter or 1 other thing. They suggested that I should start with the air filter, being the cheapest fix if it worked. The first day the light came on was very humid here (live in Arkansas). The check engine light stayed off for a couple of weeks and the noise seemed to diminish some. 2 days ago it was very humid and the light came on again and I can hear the noise. I have changed the air filter now and it is still making the noise. I think it might not be as loud but I am not sure. It happens as I push on the accelerator. When I am sitting still or moving. I, like everyone else, want to fix this before it worsens or causes problems, but do not have the extra funds to go to the dealership for their reading of the light. Help please.

Given your lack of mechanical knowledge you may need to have a mechanic look at it.autozone doesn't know shit... sounds likes a vacuum leak

U-joints will do this. They can creak, shudder, pop, whine, click, and a number of other things. I would pull it and have your friendly local driveshaft shop replace them. Or take it to them if you want to avoid having to wrap the tail shaft to keep it from leaking tranny fluid while the drive shaft is out. Shouldn't be too $$$.
  23. Have you received any information or a fix on this?

  25. Just came from the dealership. I have a 2018 with right at 17k miles and was hearing the same noise. I was told I need a new rear differential. It doesn't bother me as much because I'm still under warranty but I also don't want to be in the shop getting a differential every 2 years.

Holy s%^T. You're rear diff went out with only 17K? How in the world..I'd be really curious to know what exactly failed. Is it possible all the fluid leaked out? That's the only thing I can think of.
